When entering SMTP settings for Gmail, there may be a case of the details being correct yet they are still unable to be saved and connect to your Gmail account.
A reason for this happening is that there is a security setting in your Gmail account that can prevent a 3rd party connecting to your account via the SMTP.
To resolve this what you need to do is:
- Open the SMTP setting in Chameleon-i and enter the correct details but do not press 'Test Settings'! To do this:
- Go to 'Admin' Section of Chameleon-i.
- 'Users' tab.
- Select the 'User' from the drop down.
- Press the 'SMTP Send Mail Settings' button.
- Go to your Google Account (https://myaccount.google.com/).
- On the left navigation panel, click 'Security'.
- On the bottom of the page, in the Less secure app access panel, click 'Turn on access'.
- If you don't see this setting, your administrator might have turned off less secure app account access.
Once you have completed these steps in your Gmail account , press 'Test Settings' for your SMTP details in Chameleon-i.
If you Use G-Suite
- Open the SMTP setting in Chameleon-i and enter the correct detail but do not press 'Test Settings'! To do this:
- Go to 'Admin' Section of Chameleon-i.
- 'Users' tab
- Select the 'User' from the drop down
- Press the 'SMTP Send Mail Settings' button
- In your Google Admin console (admin.google.com) click 'Security > Basic settings'.
- Where is it? Under Less secure apps, select 'Go to settings' for less secure apps.
- In the subwindow, select the 'Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps' radio button.
- Once you've set Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps to on, affected users within the selected group or Organisational Unit will be able to toggle access for less secure apps on or off themselves.
Once you have completed these steps in your Gmail account , press 'Test Settings' for your SMTP details in Chameleon-i.
